Working from feedback.
Rather then focusing on actually getting the tattoo, a point that was made in our presentation feedback was that our main aim was to focus on anxiety and stress. Having the period of getting the tattoo took this away so it’s a better idea to focus on the emotions felt before.
We can start with the subject sitting in the tattooist’s room in first person, looking down at his sweaty shaking hands, looking around at the props in the room waiting for his turn.
The feedback given in the presentation led me to think that we didn’t even need to include the tattoo in the film and just focus on the emotions. Here’s a rough plan of what could happen.
The scene is being shot in a student room, so outside is obviously a corridor, we therefore have to improvise and pretend that the tattoos take place through the door in the corridor and the room the subject is in, is in fact the waiting room. Screaming and needle sounds can be heard through it and the camera starts to shift around faster as if the subject is panicking and becoming more anxious.
Holding a tattoo book looking at an image of an arm tattoo then at his arm to highlight what the situation is about, getting a tattoo. Heavy breathing and heartbeat sounds follow. Shows text being sent highlighting second thoughts. When the screaming stops the door opens and a man in a bloody apron comes through. ‘You ready?’ End.
